MILWAUKEE KIDS BEAT GUINNESS WORLD RECORD FOR READING
Winter Fest’s “Read It To Beat It” Challenge Brings 4,586 Children Together
MILWAUKEE – Dec. 22, 2011 – Milwaukee’s“Read It To Beat It” challenge surpassed the previous Guinness World Book of Records title of “the most children reading together with an adult” on Wednesday morning at Winter Fest. A portion of the proceeds from the event were donated to the Next Door Foundation Books For Kids program.
Green Bay Packer Ryan Grant, Former Milwaukee Brewer Craig Counsell, Mayor Tom Barrett and President/Publisher of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Betsy Brenner read aloud with 4,586 children. The previous record was achieved in Sept., 2011 in Nigeria with 4,222 children.
The Brewers Community Foundation, Educators Credit Union, Half Priced Books and United Way of Greater Milwaukee were proud sponsors of the event.

“Read It To Beat It” participants received an admission coupon to Winter Fest, a t-shirt compliments of United Way, a book compliments of Half-Price Books, and their name included in an ad in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel to remember the record breaking day.
