Group Projects

Read With Me - Read one-on-one with Preschoolers

Help boost a child's pre-reading skills by reading one-on-one or in a small group with 2 to 5 year old children enrolled in Next Door's Early Head Start, Head Start and Charter School Programs. Group of 10-15 volunteers are needed per session.

This opportunity runs from September - May, Tuesdays 9:00 am to 11:00 am / 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm and Wednesdays 9:00 am to 11:00 am.

Book Cleaning, Labeling, and Sorting

Volunteers assist the Books For Kids program by cleaning, repairing, labeling, and sorting donated books into categories. Hours are flexible.

Book Drive or Donate Your Children’s Books

Individuals and/or groups are encouraged to hold a book drive to collect gently used/new children’s books for Books For Kids.

We are in need the following kinds of books:

  • Baby Board Books
  • Children’s Picture Books
  • Children’s Fiction and Non-Fiction
  • Juvenile Literature
  • Children’s Dictionaries and Cookbooks
  • Children’s Books with Universal Themes (friendship, animals, science, etc.)
  • Parenting Books
  • Multicultural Children’s Books

We unfortunately cannot accept:

  • textbooks of any kind
  • withdrawn or discarded library books
  • old books with mildew, torn pages, handwriting, or highlighting
  • magazines
  • encyclopedias or other reference books
  • adult books
