Recently, two volunteers, Geri Howard and Donna Cassillo, registered 17 new voters on-site in the Educare piazza.  Of the 17 newly registered voters, 10 were parents and 7 were members of the staff at Next Door Foundation/Educare. One newly registered voter is voting for the first time as a new US citizen.
 

 

Long-time Corporate Partner Makes Special Gift

Helwig Carbon Products receives the 2008 Workplace Diversity Advocate Award from the Wisconsin Society for Human Resource Management Council and names Next Door Foundation as the beneficiary of a $500 contribution.  Next Door and Helwig Carbon Products have worked in close partnership for nearly 20 years.

 

Thanks to everyone who donated to the Books for Kids U.S. Postal Book Drive!
On September 27th, Milwaukee County Mail Carriers collected books from residents for Books For Kids. So far, volunteers have counted over 10,000 donated books from the 2008 Postal Drive.

Cast Members from the Skylight Opera Theatre Entertain Students
On November 3, a cast of performers from the Skylight Opera Theatre performed for Next Door’s 3, 4, and 5 year old Charter school children. The Skylight’s Enlighten Program presents free performances of The Standard Songbook at schools throughout the Milwaukee Public School system.  The performance,which ran for 35 minutes, introduced Next Door students to music and musical theatre concepts such as rhythm, tempo and melody.

United Way Donor Choice

On November 7th, Employees in the Marketing Department of Northwestern Mutual present a check for $10,029.74 to Next Door’s Executive Director Carol Keintz and Development Manager Starlet Hayes.
